Enable a Muslim to learn their faith
Many new Muslims don’t have the financial means to pursue an Islamic education, though it’s what they would want most.
Your help could us buy course books
Your help could contribute to teacher’s pay
Your help could pay for classroom hire
We’re working to facilitate more free classes and courses where new Muslims can learn the fundamentals of Islam.
At Cambridge Crescent, we’ve been running the ‘Being Muslim’ course monthly with Imam Zakarya Gangat of Cambridge Central Mosque since 2023. We also run annual Ramadan prep classes. And because we’re fortunate to have many visiting scholars in Cambridge, we’re able to engage them on a regular basis for needs based or seasonal classes. These include Abdullah Rothman, Sohaira Siddiqui, Asad Tarsin, as well as our wonderful local Imams.
But learning is rarely cheap. Textbooks are expensive and difficult to source, while the cost of courses can often be out of reach. We try to organise free or subsidised courses but the teachers we work with can’t always teach for free. Meanwhile, hosting classes requires hiring a venue and comes with other administrative costs.
With your generous support, we could organise more classes and make them widely available to a rapidly growing convert community. We could also offer classes to Muslims who are re-entering the faith. As the Muslim Ummah, we are one body. By educating individuals and equipping them with the knowledge to strengthen their Islam, we are supporting and strengthening the wider Muslim community.
‘Cambridge Crescent provides a supported, well informed and open-hearted environment for new Muslims and those they are connected to, to learn, ask questions and hear the experience of others. They actively encourage the multifaceted growth and learning, to become well rounded in one's faith, life, and worship.’ - Hannah
The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “God helps a man as long as he helps his brother. If anyone pursues a path in search of knowledge, God will thereby make easy for him a path to Paradise. Any group that gathers in one of the houses of God to recite God’s Book and study it together will have stillness descend upon them, and the angels surround them, and God will mention them to those near to Him.” - Muslim
The services we provide for new Muslims are Zakat compliant. As Allah guides us to whom to give, as illustrated in the verse below, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was also known to give and reconcile hearts.
'The charitable offerings are only for the poor, and the destitute and those who collect (the zakat) and those whose hearts are (to be) reconciled and for (ransoming) slaves and debtors and in God’s path, and the wayfarer, as an obligation from God and God is Knowing , Wise.’ — Holy Qur’an 9: 60
